Nikki Basch-Davis, one of the Bay Area's
outstanding plein-air artists, is a founding member of The Outsiders, a group
of seven plein-air painters whose work follows in the footsteps of The Society
of Six and other early colorists. Their emphasis on vivid color, loose
brushwork and local scenery which has been touched by man set them apart from
other groups.
Nikki's painting is known for its wonderful
fresh color and spontaneous brushwork. She began her art education in graphic
arts, which she studied at the Bezalel Art Institute in Jerusalem. She
continued her art education in London where she earned a degree in Interior
Design. She discovered her true passion for painting at London's Royal College
of Art.
In the 1970s in California, she studied with
Lundy Siegrist, son of Society of Six member, Louis Siegrist where she gained
her interest in plein-air painting.

"Painting
outdoors, on location, can be intoxicating. I am alone with a fresh canvas and
a scene and the feeling that something magical is about to happen. These are
the moments when I feel alive and full of anticipation."
