Christin
Coy's paintings of the hills and coastal regions of Marin County reflect her
strong connection with the land, and bring to life the unique mood and beauty
of each setting. When she discovers a scene with warm, glowing light along a
ridge top, or a group of California oaks perched on the side of a valley,
silhouetted by golden sunlight, Christin is especially inspired to portray it
on her canvas and so be able to share her enjoyment with others. Lucas Valley
in Marin is a favorite subject matter with it's ever changing light and
weather conditions. "I truly enjoy painting the area close to my
home where I am able to observe the changing landscape throughout the
seasons. It is incredibly invigorating trying to capture the fog with my quick
brushstrokes as it blows in over the hills on a Summer evening." West
Marin, with an emphasis on Bolinas Lagoon, has also been a favorite subject
matter for several years.

Christin Coy is a landscape painter that
has lived in Marin County since 1981. Born in Norway, a country with many
traditions closely relating to nature, Christin developed a deeply rooted
sense of appreciation and love for the outdoors. With her family, at the age
of 14, she immigrated to California. Later attending the U.C. Berkley Campus,
she received her degree in Fine Art in 1974.
Christin has continued to be very active in the
Marin art community and has studied plein-air painting with Bay Area artists
such as Mel Anderson, Pam Glover, Chester Arnold, and Stanley Goldstein.
Christin is one of the founding members of the
BayWood Artists, a group of professional
landscape painters committed to raising public support for rural and open
space projects, particularly environmentally sensitive or endangered areas.
Working in both oil and oil pastel on paper or
canvas, Christin has developed a fluent media to express her enjoyment,
sharing with interested viewers what she observes in nature. In musical terms,
Ray Strong, founder of the Oak Group, once said about Christin's work that it
evokes the deep, rich sounds of the cello.
Christin has been very active in the art's
community, exhibiting widely in solo and group exhibitions and receiving
numerous awards including:
Juror's Award, Plein-Air Biennial, Napa
Valley Museum
