"My interest in painting is
with direct paint application in an expressive manner while using pure color
combinations and meaty brushstrokes. I paint interior-scapes, landscapes and
still-life in acrylic on linen and canvas in my studio or on location. I have
studied and been influenced by the French Impressionists, the Fauvists and the
Californian Society of Six.
My intent is to paint color, light and shadows rather than painting the
subject I am looking at. As a colorist, I strive to see colors and shapes and
transfer those images to my canvas. During the first hours of beginning a
painting, I work to translate my feeling before considering any details. These
works are the result of an intense and rapid outpouring of emotion while I try
to let color and light speak.
Often I’ll return to the same location, whether a landscape or interior-scape
to paint in a different season or time of day. Recently my compositions have
taken on a complexity that is almost overwhelming to me as I sort through the
shapes I am seeing and try to simplify and organize them with paint. Maybe
this is a reflection of my life and the twists and turns that have occurred
over the years. I hope my paintings tell a good story and reflect a meaningful
moment in time."

"A wild and wonderful colorist, Kathleen's landscapes vibrate with vitality and
color. Influenced by the Fauvists, especially Vincent Van Gogh and the
California Impressionists, she paints on location, translating what she sees
into a world of vitality, motion and joy."
