Hector Flores has always used art
to express his observations of the human condition. Growing up in Guadalajara,
Mexico, he learned how to draw from his father and began as a cartoonist,
drawing caricatures which, although sometimes unflattering, never shied away
from the truth. His paintings retain this honesty along with an undeniable sense
of compassion. Hector's subjects are the common man in common situations
represented expressionistically with uncommon beauty. "I am interested in seeing
what we do and how we do it," he says. And with this simple impetus, he paints
us in such a way that we are stopped in our tracks and made to look at
ourselves, as if for the first time. |
