"William Rushton's exciting canvases are full of  color, mysterious pools of deep shadow, brilliant lighting,  spontaneous brushwork and often heavily layered paint which yield paintings that are exciting in their depth and vibrant richness."

 

William Rushton is is a founding member of The Outsiders, a group of seven plein-air painters whose work follows in the footsteps of The Society of Six. Much of his work is done on site in locations painted by Society of Six members.

William received his Master's degree in 1977 from San Jose State University and recently retired from treaching for over 31 years at Cupertino, CA high school. He also currently teaches a plein-air painting class through UC Santa Cruz. 

Known for rich color and wonderful, lavish application of paint, his work is highly acclaimed and he has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions, often as part of The Outsiders.
